Wet Grungy Brushes.

I’m a big fan of custom brushes in photoshop. I usually download them via various sites like Brusheezy and myphotoshopbrushes. To me, custom brushes are especially useful when you are doing painting in photoshop. It helps save a lot of time to create the texture and effect that you desired. Today, I finally created my own set of custom brush and also did a practice painting of a skull using this set of brushes. I must say I’m happy with the result:)

Illustrations of Giant Panda’s Growth Stages.

Did a series of digital painting illustrations on giant panda’s growth stages for River Safari Singapore. This series was actually done last year and I only post it now because the River Safari is now officially opened on 3 April 2013. As usual, these were done for the interpretive panels on the growing stages of giant panda. Reference images were provided on the different stages of the panda. Painted digitally.

Year of The Snake.

I have been really busy with work recently that I almost do not have the time to complete this Chinese New Year Greeting illustration. Finally managed to get it done just before the CNY.

Wishing everyone prosperous, healthy and wealthy year of The Snake.  恭喜发财!万事如意!

CNY2013(final)

Did a simple CNY greeting for my company as well.

Messenger and Passenger Pigeon.

Messenger Pigeon or homing pigeon is a variety of domestic pigeon derived from the Rock Pigeon. Selectively bred to find its way home over extremely long distances.  The wild rock pigeon has an innate homing ability, meaning that it will generally return to its own nest and its own mate. This made it relatively easy to breed from the birds that repeatedly found their way home over long distances. The earliest large scale communication network using pigeons as messengers was established in Syria and Persia about 5th Century BC and In modern times the feral pigeon has been used to great effect during wartime. Some amazing facts about pigeons can be found here.

Passenger Pigeon or Wild Pigeon was a bird that existed in North America, probably once the most numerous bird on earth, until the early 20th century when it went extinct due to hunting and habitat destruction. The last known Passenger Pigeon, Martha, died at the Cincinnati Zoo in September 1914 .

Below are the 2 illustrations I did for the Messenger and Passenger Pigeon.

2012! Enter The Dragon!

This is my first post of the year and Chinese New Year is just few hours away.  This year, we are entering the year of the Dragon and it really excite me as I have not been painting/drawing any dragon for ages. Especially traditional chinese dragon. I must admit, once I started drawing dragon again, I got addicted.  I enjoyed doing this CNY greeting illustration so much that I did not 1, but 3 of them.  2 personal and 1 for my company Cashmax Jewelry.

For the first time, I included my wife and myself in the painting. So I finally have my own ‘family’ painting.:)

For the second painting, I try using colorful strokes and lines to create motions and movements to the painting. This way, I hope to make it more interesting out of something simple.

The last one, which I did for my company, I wanted to create something that looks like a paper-cut and at the same time with a vintage feel:)
